Custom Content Fix for PETS (Updated 10/20/2011) (Testers Needed) by Grant Hess

Update 10/19/2011 Currently looking into the animation issue and I will update this as I have news.
Update 10/20/2011 Animation Issues potentially fixed! Please re-convert any objects that had failed animations and let me know.

As most people know, there has been a major upheaval in custom content with the TS3 patch that came out on Monday 10/17/2011.

The cause of the problem is that the _RIG resource has changed formats. The original used an encrypted format that required a ton of work to read and write. The new format is much better and there is already a s3pe plugin to support the format (Thanks Peter!) so it will be a much better choice going forward.

HOWEVER for the moment, all of the cc that uses _RIG resources are broken!

The attached file is a program that automatically converts from old to new format so that you can fix your own content.

It needs a ton of testing, and may make things worse for some items. So please be careful to keep a backup of any CC that you try this on.

Read more and download at  Sims 3 Stuff n Things

Thanks, Anons:)

  1. By the way, this tool does automatically back up your files as .bak, so while it doesn't fix everything perfectly (yet), you won't lose your CC. And while it may break some objects, it won't break your save, so you can try it without too much risk.

It also CAN be used on combined packages... and .dbc files if they are renamed .package first (and renamed back to .dbc afterwards).

Things it apparently still has issues with are beds, some (but not all) cars, and generally more complex animated objects. Grant is working on that.

  2. Really happy to hear this problem's solution is already on the horizon.

Still not getting Pets until more items like beds are deemed "safe" though.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Beds are safe.
I've tried store and cc beds, with sims and pets. They work fine.
Now the baths are a different story.

  4. So great to hear that there's a fix in progress! :D woo
Is this necessarily for objects like wall hangings, rugs and miscellaneous decor?

    ReplyDelete
  5. This is great indeed. However, I'd still hold off a bit on using this. The fix is still in beta and apparently only partially effective, as certain animations are still borked.

  6. =D Omgyesss. I won't be using this yet (haven't patched my game yet either, not risking it) until there have been more revisions or other programs that help, but glad to see that fixing the 1.26 patch problems won't be totally impossible and solutions have already begun to take place so quickly. ^-^

  7. Some people are reporting doors and chairs not being fixed. Sims are able to use them, but without the animations.

  8. Even though this is just a start, it's wonderful that it's in the works so fast. Thank you!

  9. Just FYI, TSR has a tool they are trying to release on 10/20 that will indeed batch-fix everything in your game without withdrawing any CC from it. It is also said to fix CC inside lots as well. It's also touted as an ultra-simple tool to use. It has been being tested.... Glad so many are coming up with solutions.....

  10. I'm so happy and thankful the modders out there are fixing this for us and hopefully we won't have to be bothered with re-downloading anything especially all the store stuff!!
Fucking E.A. they are so annoying do they not realize without Custom Content there would have never been a sims 2 series yet alone sims 3 so to break our downloads is beyond annoying and there was more then likely a way they could have made everything work with pets without fucking up everything but that is E.A. for you.

    ReplyDelete
  11. They didn't break everything on purpose, and when they change several dynamics of how a game runs like they did with Pets, it's natural for things to break and become obsolete. It happens all the time in programming. Be grateful the modders are finding a way to fix this and stop bitching about EA all the time.

  12. Hi I'm a Sims fan.
I wish there was a way to have my Teen sims get pregnant.
I also wish you could have Mermaid sims.
I hope the next expansion pack includes Asian clothing and Baby strollers.
Hopefully someone will release a mod that allows Toddler sims to woohoo and get pregnant.

    um.
    that is all.

  14. For some reason NONE of my CC got borked. I expected to loose everything but once the game installed, I looked and looked but nothing wasn't working. *Except for like core mods*

Am i the only one who experienced this?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Since TSR is fixing all their downloads server side, will MTS do the same?

    ReplyDelete
  16. ^Depends.
If you only have CAS CC, then yes.

    ReplyDelete
  17. may i know ..., i used to (mostly 85%) installing cc by extract them to .package then have them placed in Mods folder, will these cc be affected? Thanks in advance

    ReplyDelete
  18. All object CC is affected even if you don't notice any affect at all. This goes for stuff both in pkg format and Sims 3 packs.

    ReplyDelete
  19. FYI: Grant updated his tool yesterday. The animations that weren't working—including doors, chairs, baths—now work. There are only a couple things that are still broken, including the bed issue that the T$R tool has as well.

@anon, like, 10 comments ago: The TSR tool is not easier to use than this one. Maybe it's more comforting to people who aren't good with computers because it has an UI, but there are definitely a lot more steps. You have install the thing for one (along with the Granny Demo, although you could just take .dll from this tool like I did). This RigFixer is only drag-and-drop, and possibly rename file extensions if you want to run your .dbc files. TSR's tool is only good for sims3packs, which are not installed in the game (installed sims3packs are compressed in the .dbc files as sims3packs, which are simply containers for packages, similar to .zip files). So I guess the TSR tool has its place for backup files, but for running your actual game files, Grant's RigFixer is much simpler.

    ReplyDelete
  20. ^ Completely agree, I couldn't get TSR Rigfixer to work, but this works like a charm.

  21. " TSR's tool is only good for sims3packs, which are not installed in the game (installed sims3packs are compressed in the .dbc files as sims3packs, which are simply containers for packages, similar to .zip files)."

This is absolutely false. TSR's tool is for .sims3packs, .packages, .dbc (without having to rename them), and even merged files.

I don't know where you have gotten such misinformation from, when what it fixes is right on the page and those of us who have tried it can attest that it fixes all these things.

  23. I actually identified ONE kind of CC that messes with CAS. Custom Camera Mods makes pets all distorted in CAS. So if you have any, remove them and they will go back to normal.

  24. I'm still having some problems.
The Grecian Bed and Regal Repose bed have a problem with the covers.
The store bath tubs are wonky when bathing a pet.
I guess I have to get rid of my Store packages. *sigh*

  25. Awesome!

Frankly, I wouldn't put it past TSR to add some kind of spyware to anything they put out. Just don't trust 'em. I'm glad there's another alternative.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The TSR fix worked for me, I had some issue with the net framework compatibility with this solution so I tried that one. Used on both package and pack files (I broke them down into smaller folders first to avoid any memory issues as I had over 2 gigs in package files alone). Re-installed all my content and tested in game and it all worked (at least so far so good).
I'm just happy that there are multiple options for us all to choose from so thanks to all of you who've worked non-stop since this problem came up!

  27. Is aWT AWOL? Anyone know if he will be updating his slider hack for Pets?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm going with Grant as well. While I'm happy that TSR has worked out a solution I don't trust them enough. Both are good choices, I suppose.

  29. Does the TSR tool fix custom cars, too?

  30. It's nice to have a simple program like Grant's, and not having to install that grandma thing and TSR's.

  31. After patching my sim heads are looking a tad stretched when using custom hairs, but maybe I'm just imagining things. Does it look this way to you guys? Did the patch alter any sim skeletons?

    ReplyDelete
  32. ^I've seen reports of that on the official forums. What graphics card do you have?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Updated my packages with this and it works fine :)

Fixed my cc with it - still got more to fix at the moment.

    No.

  36. "Since TSR is fixing all their downloads server side, will MTS do the same? "

Nope. TSR is a business; they charge for their downloads, so they're responsible for making them work. MTS is more of a clearing house for player-created content. At MTS, it's up to the individual uploader to make their own fixes.

    ReplyDelete
  37. "TSR is a business; they charge for their downloads, so they're responsible for making them work."

LOL. There's a lot of stuff at TSR that doesn't work.

TSR has said that Pets-compatible stuff doesn't work with earlier versions of the game. Not sure if Granthes's tool has the same effect or not, but that could be a big reason why MTS doesn't want to require modders to update their content.

I didn't mean it didn't work for all of those types of files, I meant that this RigFix is superior to TSR's one except in the case of sims3packs. (For the record, I did try their tool, but I ran it in Sandboxie just in case.) I suppose I could have been clearer with my choice of words, but I still think you're a douche for defending T$R with such vehemence.

  39. "I suppose I could have been clearer with my choice of words, but I still think you're a douche for defending T$R with such vehemence."

And I think you're a fucking dumbass. There have been plenty of times when I've trashed TSR for stuff they have done; this just isn't one of them. You give credit where credit is due. However, pointing out what a tool does and your misinformation about it (despite your obvious backpedaling) is not the same as defending TSR with vehemence. If you weren't such an idiot, you could see the difference.

  40. What's up with all the T$R dicksuckas ITT? Or are they only eevyl and must be stopped up until they release a tool that doesn't spy on you for once?

  43. I tried to register at 'Sims 3 Stuff n Things' for the purpose of commenting without success. Seems it doesn't want to recognize my e-mail address as valid which is ludicrous given the fact that it is so whatever...

On to other stuff...on the off chance that Grant is reading these comments let me say that I tested the hell out of this program for the past three days and ALL of my content works. The only content I have had a problem with are lots. Third party and my own. They won't install and they won't convert. These are bare bones lots. Shells without house CC or landscaping. I have no idea why they won't install but I suspect it is an EA glitch and unrelated to the repair program so consider that issue skipped over. I am, however, interested in knowing if anyone else had a problem with lots. As for the rest of the content having run it through this program I am very impressed. It fixed everything it should have fixed and left everything that did not need fixing alone and my game runs as beautifully now as it did before. No problems with CC, nothing broken or made worse, no load lag, and no game lag. I am quite certain I have CC in game that others use as well so I doubt I just got lucky. All credit goes to Grant. Well done Grant. Thanks for this and for addressing the problem so promptly. It is greatly appreciated.

  44. "TSR has said that Pets-compatible stuff doesn't work with earlier versions of the game"

Of course it won't work now that the _RIG files are completely different. But why would you download Pets compatible stuff to begin with if you are not running Pets? Unless content is base game friendly you have always had to have the appropriate EP's to use some CC.

  46. "But why would you download Pets compatible stuff to begin with if you are not running Pets? "

TSR has stated that they're requiring all creators to update their content for Pets. Are they going to post two versions of each their download, one Pets-compatible and one not? (That's not sarcasm, I don't know the answer.)

Either way, my answer was referring to the question of why MTS isn't requiring their creators to do the same. They would need to require two different versions of each download, or people who aren't running Pets/1.26 wouldn't be able to download from the website. I don't know for sure if that's the reason, but it could certainly be a factor.

    ReplyDelete
  47. So the head stretch thing is some shitty glitch that came with the latest patch and affects people with Radeon cards? I just tested Maxis hair and its doing the same thing with that too.

    )

Ah, okay. My fault but you're question is clearer now. I suppose I assumed they will post two versions. Otherwise, all of their paid subscribers *without* Pets will not be able to download any of their content from Oct 20 onward and I seriously don't see TSR imposing a limitation that will result in loss of revenue. But you raise a good point. It occurs to me that two versions of everything could bog down their server like crazy.

Yeah (what you're suggesting I think?) leaving things the way they are and expecting those of us with Pets to do our own conversion work makes way more sense. Which then leads me to wonder if TSR isn't about to shoot themselves in the foot.

  49. Did anyone have trouble opening the program? Everytime I click on it a black box briefly appears(so quickly that I cannot even read what is says) and then disappears.

How did everyone else open the program?

I too was confused. Had to do a bit of hunting. You drag your package file onto the file extension. You do not open RigFix. It will open on its own when you drop a file on it. It was kind of confusing for me, since it was not really stated specifically. Also, the .bak file it creates is apparently a backup of your original file, in case something went wrong. I made a new folder for those.

Anyway, thank you to everyone who helped! :D

Just after checking through the world wide web and obtaining advice that were not helpful, I was thinking my life was well over. Living without the presence of solutions to the difficulties you have resolved through the guide is a critical case, and the kind that might have negatively damaged my entire career if I hadn't encountered the website. Your main competence and kindness in handling all things was very helpful. I am not sure what I would have done if I hadn't come upon such a step like this. I can also at this moment relish my future. Thanks for your time very much for the skilled and amazing help. I will not be reluctant to propose your web site to anyone who will need guidelines about this area.
