  1. I appreciate that creators are doing this for those who prefer to have their CC in Sims3Packs, but I find it hilarious that people still haven't figured out that it's not necessary.

  3. agree with the second anon... package files slow my game down so much ever since the latest patch :( but Sims3Packs cause no problem

  4. ^ Go read the extensive threads on this topic at MTS and MATY (you might need to use that pesky "search" button). Package files in general are NOT bad, even though a select few of them are. When you weed out the few bad packages, your game will run quickly even if you have several gigs of GOOD packages. Combined with the much better ease of organization and uninstall (in the event you end up with something bad, or you just don't like something anymore), packages are still infinitely superior to Sims3Packs.

The problem arose when EA changed some of their coding, so objects cloned from CERTAIN objects (including the fig tree and foosball table) are accessed by the game itself tens of thousands of times in just a few minutes. That causes the infamous package lag. But thankfully, MOST package files do not cause this to occur.

Search for a program called ProcMon (Process Monitor) at MTS, if nothing else. You use it to scan the game while it's running to see what files it is attempting to access, and how many times. You can also just use the binary method to sift through your stuff to see what file or files are causing the issue, because it's very likely that it's not all (or even many) of them.

  5. "but packages doesn't work good with WA so i think Sims3Packs are better..."

Oh, honestly. I can't believe there are people still spreading this myth around. No, it is not all packages.

  6. Just to add to what I already said, I wanted to point out something else: Sims3Packs are just containers for packages. They still have packages "in" them, they just contain an XML heading that points the game toward the package. So hypothetically, if you had a bad package and you converted it into a Sims3Pack, you'd have the same issue. It's not the fault of the .package format.

Seriously, all this information is out there on sites like MTS and MATY. You just have to look for it.

  7. I've used procmon, also weeded out the few bad packages. Found that even "good" packages cause lag in my game with WA installed. I can barely avoid lag with the very few default skins and hairs that I have in package format. At present, if I add any more (no matter what kind) my game lags. Many, many other people have the same problem. So for us, its much appreciated when creators upload their content in both formats.

  9. "Found that even "good" packages cause lag in my game with WA installed."

This will be true if you have a lot of CC in packages but it will be true of Sims3Pack, too. And you can't organize them or uninstall them nearly as easily that way.

  10. "At present, if I add any more (no matter what kind) my game lags."

That has to do with your computer, not the game. Specifically processor speed and RAM, most likely. If you've noticed, the MINIMUM requirements for WA have gone up noticeably, and meeting the minimum does not guarantee a smooth game.

I appreciate creators giving people the option of either, but don't appreciate when people make claims about things they obviously have not looked into for themselves.

As Katana has already pointed out, sims3packs contain the same things as package files. The only difference between sims3packs and .packages is the way they are installed.

  11. Gonna go on topic and say these clothes are really nice. Thanks.

  12. I like these clothes as well and I'm glad that creators are giving the option to download s3p files as well as packages.

I actually like the launcher because, for me, it's easier to manage my files with the thumbnails. Do I wish the launcher was better organized? Oh hells yes! A search function would be great at the very least.

I still have the framework and packages for things unavailable in sims3pack. But overall I prefer them in s3p format, so this is great.

  13. Jesus people you don't have to jump down people throats for preferring sims3packs. I'm glad some creators are offering both kinds of files. Big thanks for this.

  14. I like the thumbnails too. I am not sure it makes a big difference..I tried hair in sims3packs and in packages and could see little difference. However, I found it easier to use the thumbnails to delete the content then a bunch of package files, some with names that are not very descriptive. If the launcher had more categories it would be very nice indeed. Right now, its a bit cumbersome for most things but clothing and hair seem to be okay for me.

  15. They weren't jumping down their throats for preferring sim3packs.

They were jumping because people are still under the misconception that .package files are the main reasons why the patched and/or WA-installed games lag.

  16. "I like the thumbnails too."

There is a tool for viewing thumbnails of .packages. I believe it's Postal, but if I'm mistaken hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I will correct me.

Bingo. Try actually reading the content of the posts, Lorn.

  18. I would love to hear more about this postal thing. I need to very much clean up my cc and if this system makes it a little easier by all means please give more info. And these clothes are cute...I think I already have some of them...or they look very similar to some I have.

  21. I can't use packages!! dammit this is good stuff :)

  22. I can read anon, thanks for missing my point. Bad packages ARE the reason behind WA lag, even the MTS thread you guys keep referring to says as much (and I've read through that as well). I don't fault anyone that doesn't want to deal with packages after WA. Please take your own advice next time.

  23. ^ I am the anon you were speaking too. BAD packages, not all packages. You said it yourself.

Besides, in case you didn't know this, Sims3Packs contain packages. They are just containers for packages, with an XML heading. If you managed to repack a package into a Sims3Pack, it would still be the same package with all the same problems.

People really need to educate themselves on these issues before they spout off like they know what they are talking about.

  24. S3packs FTW! i hate package files simply for the reason that they load over & over again causing games to lag. and currently that's good & bad files.

  25. I've tried putting my package files in my documents/mods/packages, and my computer as well, but for some unknown reason my game refuses to recognize them. Sims3pack helps me with that. I'm not a newb either, I know what I'm doing, but no matter what i have tried, I cannot get my game to recognize them
