They aren't hanging mid air. Loverdag put a structure there to 'hold' them up, which you can clearly see in pictures 5&7. I'm guessing the structure isn't showing up in 6 because of the angle, but I think that's just fine, unless you don't want to see what your sim is up to under it.
Very very pretty. Awesome job, Loverdag. I can tell a lot of thought went into this.
