  1. Wow, Will Be off to try this now. =)

  2. FYI you have to download Origin to try it, which appears to be more EADM-y crap of the kind nobody wants.

I wanted to play this, but I'm not downloading shit I don't want.

  3. This warning comes a little late but BE CAREFUL EVERYONE! Apparently a lot of people are having issues with their game after installing this. This includes messing up saved games and causing Store stuff to disappear. Check out the TS3 forums for more info. (http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/forums/show/494.page)

  4. Yup all my sims 3 packs uninstalled..... I am lucker the some others at leaset my game still plays.....yet another EA Epic FAIL!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Can't play game while having this thing installed. Wish i hadn't installed it.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Thanks for the information. I was not sure to registrate at another f#k#g platform to simply be able to download a promo, but after reading that it borks the game - then I'll let it go.......

    ReplyDelete
  7. Thanks for the info. Thankfully I tried it out on my laptop which doesn't have the Sims 3. Glad I read the comments first before putting it on my desktop.

  8. Such misinformation is spread by certain parts of this community. The demo launcher is different than the game launcher that's why you don't see your downloads.

    ReplyDelete
  9. From what a lot of the posts on the Sims 3 forums are saying is that this isn't an issue of people mistaking the demo launcher for the game one. The Sims 3 Pet Demo is causing installed content and saved games to be deleted. Also, it's keeping some from even starting the game.

    ReplyDelete
  10. i can't even figure out how to get this thing installed

    ReplyDelete
  11. I wish i had known better before i donloaded. After i exited CAP to play my regular game, the launcher unstalled my shit and i have a lot.
And now even though i installed everything again, my saved game says there are missing objects.

    ReplyDelete
  12. is there a direct download for the mac version anywhere? i can't for the life of me get that gametree site to work

    ReplyDelete
  13. I downloaded Origin but uninstalled it without downloading any games.

    Am I fucked?

    ReplyDelete
  14. MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP EVERYTHING!
BETTER YET MOVE YOUR "THE SIMS 3" FOLDER TO YOU DESKTOP, BEFORE INSTALLING.

    ReplyDelete
  15. You should be fine as long as you didn't install the Pets demo. Orgin itself shouldn't do anything to your Sims 3 game.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I can't get it uninstalled. The uninstall thing on Orgins doesn't work.

    Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Lol fail, EA. Uninstalled my packs too.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yeah it did it to me also, I was one of the unlucky people who couldn't even start their game. The launcher would say there was an error and then close. I managed to fix is by deleting files in the DCCache folder one by one until I found the glitches/borked one.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I deleted it and my game is still messed up,error-error!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Will let me download, but I can't open it. Seems like it could be spyware.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I deleted the missingdeps.idx file under Sims3/DCCache and now it works.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It's not an EA fail, it's a you people are stupid fail. Install Origins and Pets, the demo that pops up is not your game's launcher, it's the demo launcher. Your sims3packs have not been touched, nor have your save files. If you are running Awesomemod, take it out. I just moved my entire mods folder to the desktop. Then run the demo. Go to CAS, there you go. Quit blaming EA for everything when you're the ones messing up.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Wow, all but about two comments are about fucked up games. Epic fail, EA.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Must be some antipiracy shit. They like that and it always effects legit users more than those who pirate everything.

Uh no YOUR'RE the stupid one. I'm perfectly aware of the different launchers. Also so perfectly aware that when I load up my SAVED GAME on THE SIMS 3, not THE CAP DEMO. ALL of my S3Ps are uninstalled. No matter how many times I reinstall them into my MAIN GAME when I save and load my game again they dissapear.

Quit being a know-it-all asshole just because you THINK you know-it-all.

Everyone else beware there's a good chance this will corrupt you DCCache.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Do Not Install this peice of crap!

I deleted it and started my regullar game up and found my three games missing so many files missing that I just dumped them all. I'm having to reload all my game discs and all my saved files. Fortunately I have them on disc.

This thing is poison for your games. Who was the ass whipe who designed this?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks for the warnings, you guys. I'll just wait until Sims 3 Pets comes out. :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. FUCKYEAH backed up my shit before installing.

I am deeply sorry to hear about everyone's loss. EA can go play in traffic, seriously and they need to stop fucking everybody's game over with their shitty programming... -.-

    ReplyDelete
  29. Then you really are an idiot for not backing your shit up, Brit the Twit, appropriate username by the way.

    ReplyDelete
  30. LOL Anons an absolute retard. It IS an EA fail. Do you think we're stupid enough to not be able to tell the difference between the CAP Launcher and Our normal S3 Launcher?

S3Packs have been uninstalled. You've just made a complete fool of yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  31. "Do you think we're stupid enough to not be able to tell the difference between the CAP Launcher and Our normal S3 Launcher?"

    Yes.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Good thing I was at work while this was released or I would have installed it along with everyone else. Dodged that bullet. I hope everyone is able to get their games back up and running

    ReplyDelete
  33. Then isn't it funny how we actually can tell the difference, despite being so stupid that we apparantly cannot?

    ReplyDelete
  34. ANON,
You've already proven yourself to be (for no obvious reason) irritable and a moronic jerk.
    Give it a rest.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks EA. One of your dwindling "legit" costumers once more screwed by your lolfail hands. Corrupted all my saves. Consider me officially a proud pirate of all your content from now on, seeing as it's the least I can do. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS.

Oh, and can we please get this fucking blog entry taken down before this does any more damage to the community? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Nice. I would've immediately downloaded this if it had included making your own little critters like rats etc. It truly pays to not care for cats and dogs. :P

And yes... pleeeeeease take this entire blog entry down, link and all. This is just screwing so many innocent people. Don't be evil, MS3B.

    ReplyDelete
  37. So it's EA's Fault You've never backed up your content?

I don't like what is happening, but Backing up Your saves is a MUST in ANY sort of Beta or Demo Situation

    ReplyDelete
  38. I was going to try it out but i was feeling too lazy to register with origin. Glad i didn't bother now.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Don't take it down. I enjoy the bitchiness that has ensued in the comments section. It's a good way to pass the time while waiting for all my Sims 3 packs to re-install. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Glad I read the comments first. Way to go, EA. Exactly what I would expect from you.

    ReplyDelete
  41. from generations fucking up my games, now the lone ep i've been waiting for, and i'm already too scared to buy it. fuck you, ea. goddamnit, with all that damned money, you could afford to employ competent programmers.

    ReplyDelete
  42. So glad I read these comments before installing.

    ReplyDelete
  43. "Then you really are an idiot for not backing your shit up, Brit the Twit, appropriate username by the way."

My so call "shit" is backed up, I can move my saved DCCaches but new downloads WON'T STAY INSTALLED.

Also just proved my point, that your original statement about everyone being all confused about the Launcher was incorrect and jackass-y. Then you proved my point correct again, Thank you.

Anon try getting a real name instead of hiding behind anonymity. Bet anything half the jackass Anons would STFU if they had to use a real profile. Pussies have a problem with being an MF'er with a link back . Grow a pair.

As for Jarod maybe if EA had mentioned that the demo was going to install directly into the Sims 3, people would've taken better care. I had the CAS demo on my computer for a while so I could make sims with out the loading times. I recall it having its' own folder in My Docoments > Eletronic Arts.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Instead of making this useless demo they should have bothered to fix the photography glitch that came with Generations.

    EA keeps disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  45. On another note EA should know that Westies are way cuter than this.

    ...EA you done messed up.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I installed it without any precautions (bad idea), I did take my mods out but I didn't think to back my stuff out. My launcher is not working (I already uninstalled Origins and the demo) but when I launch the game from the bin, everything works. So if you're having launcher problems, go from the bin!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Brit, I know right? That Westie really doesn't look very good. So disappointed to see Pugs looking like this

Can't do enough to the bodies so Pugs are still a complete fail. So disappointing.

:/ I know i won't be having Pugs in my game.. Such a shame.

    ReplyDelete
  48. In regards to not backing up games, I bet there's a lot of people who believed that it would not be connected to their actual TS3 files. I thought it was a stand alone thing that wouldn't touch TS3 game files. I would not have thought to back up my saved games because I didn't think it would behave like a patch. EA should have have provided a warning about that. It would have saved a lot of unnecessary grief for many.

    ReplyDelete
  49. 4katsuki awwwww,adorable pup!!
I myself have a puggle with a little more pug face. Agree about the bodies, need more options. Halloween Puggle.

Funny note, my dog is doing the same head tilt thing in ALL her pictures. Even when shes not wearing a pink cape. Maybe shes' practicing when I'm not looking trying to make sure I get her good side.

    ReplyDelete
  50. DON'T DOWNLOAD THIS, IT SCREWS UP YOUR GAME TERRIBLY. IF YOU REALLY HAVE TO, BACK IT UP.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I reinstalled my packs. Everything works fine. It took all of 10 minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  52. this worked fine without uninstalling any games or packs for me. check out the pets forum.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Honestly, it's not worth it either way you look at it. The mandatory "Origin" file which comes with it is spyware, and will do unintended operations to your files.

No thank you. EA can gag on it.

But honestly - how often do you make backups? Even if I do so every week I might miss things afterwards

  55. Why is this link to such destructive software still up after all this time???

    Don't be evil, MS3B.

    ReplyDelete
  56. ^It has something to do with sims. What Joe can do, is put some warning on the entry so people know what will happen if they install it.

I wonder if moving everything to desktop will work and nothing will be deleted.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I downloaded it, played with it for a while and uninstalled it. My game is fine. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I loaded my game not too long ago and played the family I've been playing just to make sure. No problems. Hope they fix the problem though.

    ReplyDelete
  58. My game works just fine ... but maybe I'm lucky.
In any case, this demo made waiting just harder. Defintiely looking forward to this now, even though I wasn't before!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I was so thrilled to try this CaP and now I cannot play my reg game anymore. I must be cursed by EA 'cause I already had problems with Gen. I couldnt save most of the time and now the game wont even start. I even have problems opening the launcher. I guess I have to wait for Pets to be out and maybe it'll fix my problems... If only I had taken all my games before changing countries ! I only have Gen with me... Damn !

    ReplyDelete
  60. What does this Demo actually DO? Can we play with these Pets in our REAL TS3 game? When we upload them to the Exchange, and people download them, do they work in the REAL game?

    ReplyDelete
  61. ^Probably once the game is released, but not until then. The EP is being released mid-October, I believe.

EA definitely screwed the pooch with this demo, but you should ALWAYS keep a backup of your game handy (on a separate HD, if possible), even if you haven't played it in awhile. You never know when a hard drive can fail or something can randomly corrupt your saves.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Guys, you can still try out the demo if you want...

Just relocate your Expansion packs and Sims 3 folders located in your "Documents" folder. I did this and I completely dodged EA's lolfail bullshit.

    Just saying. :)

The animals in the Create a Pet menu are so fucking fuzzy and cute omg. ;-; Cannot wait for the actual Expansion pack now...!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I downloaded this and had no problems with my game, nothing messed up or missing. However the demo doesnt seem to work for me

    ReplyDelete
  64. You can make your pets in CAS, save them, then back up the .sim files of your pets. I assume the .sim files will still be there when you install the Pets EP.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Anon, you need to rename your mods folder to something like mods.old for the demo to work. You really don't want to try it though..Unless you don't mind reinstalling s3packs or having some of them double or having a startup error.

    ReplyDelete
  66. A demo that actually goes into your game files? WOW EA!

    ReplyDelete
  67. The EP is only a few weeks away, I think I can wait.

    ReplyDelete

Exactly. I *never* alter my game, not with expansion packs and or patches (let alone a demo) without moving my entire sims 3 folder to the desktop first (I also back up the directory once a day just in case). Once I know the EP and or the patch work properly I move *my* Sims 3 directory back into the game. I have never had a problem with my game by doing it this way.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Yeah. Definitely not installing this. Thanks for the warning, guys. I'm not ready to face Origins yet, I know they're up to some creepy stuff and I don't want to deal with the possible repercussions.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Whether you back-up everything before installing this or not, that isn't the point. This is incredibly, and blatantly destructive to your sims game (corrupts games whether or not you have mods, corrupts your bought store content etc), and even screws with your computer itself (namely the "Origin" file).

Now that most of us understand how brutally harmful this "demo" really is, I'd like to know why this blog entry wasn't taken down over the past 24 hours and is still on top of the page for all to see. Does MS3B get advertising revenue from EA for blindly peddling their broken rubbish? :/

    ReplyDelete
  71. ^ I always wondered that about this blog. Especially now, to have a popular blog for the sims community, and then despite the endless problems with it you still promote this so-called-demo, something that harms the very community you're supporting. Something doesn't add up here.

Seriously starting to have my doubts about frequenting MS3B anymore...

    ReplyDelete
  72. Okay I backed up my files, followed steps various people posted to get the game working, and I'm STILL having a hell of a time getting the game back up and running properly.

I agree wholeheartedly with the above comments. Joe, if you give a remote crap about any of your followers, put up a warning about this, or better yet, simply TAKE THIS LINK DOWN.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I disagree, Joe definitely should not take the link down, it is an important piece of sims news that he is reporting.

It's your responsibility to do the research, weigh up the risks and not just blindly install a piece of software without making backups and preparing your game first.

He's already posted a warning, it would be silly to remove the post entirely so that some people would miss out on the opportunity to play the demo.

enough with the drama already... It's just a game!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Thank you Sarah, I agree. There is lots of information in these comments that can help someone. Sorry it didn't help you.

I appreciate the comments on the postings. I read them and take heed or praise a creator's work. Please Joe, don't take this down.

    ReplyDelete
  75. "I'd like to know why this blog entry wasn't taken down over the past 24 hours and is still on top of the page for all to see."

Maybe because the maintainers have lives outside of this blog? Jobs and classes they need to attend, family and friends they like to spend time with, hobbies other than sitting around monitoring the comments on their blog all damn day? Speculating about whether MS3B is getting paid by EA is just ridiculous. It's not like this entry has been parked at the top of the page for weeks and all negative comments are being deleted. It was less than 24 hours before a warning was added to the post.

This is an official demo, posted on EA's official downloads site. It's not that crazy for someone to post a link to it, assume that it's safe, and go do something else for awhile. If you want to be angry with someone, be angry with EA for not removing the demo from their site yet, even though they're certainly aware by now that it's destroying people's games.

Whether you back-up everything before installing this or not, that isn't the point.

Oh, okay. I was just sayin' that it is a point for *me*. I can restore my entire Sims 3 directory from my backup, so ya know, problem solved.

This is incredibly, and blatantly destructive to your sims game

So complain to EA. It's their program.

(corrupts games whether or not you have mods, corrupts your bought store content etc)

There are no files of my own to corrupt in a new, clean, launcher generated sims 3 directory used for testing.

As for Joe allowing the entry to stand it seems to me he is merely reporting a new EA sanctioned program, not glorifying its use or twisting anyone's arm to download it. This is akin to blaming him for announcing an EA patch after it borks your game. Unfortunately, shit happens, and the only person responsible for MY game files is ME.

Agree with all you said, but the above especially. It's also not the first time that EA has fucked something up. You think people would be better prepared by now.

and delete everything in the map, i hope it will help you.

It will not surprise me, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

  88. this was eas doing allright
i installed demo played around then uninstalled it and then my sims dont work at all - ghet a starting error and read log
    so i done nothing wrong

but then i read here by HELPFULL people on how to solve it: I deleted the missingdeps.idx file under Sims3/DCCache and now it works.

    that fixed it for me

    ReplyDelete
  89. my advice is to NOT try this demo - its not worth the issues u might get

look at pics and videos of it instead and then buy the expansion if u want or not - do not bother with the demo

    ReplyDelete
  90. If you don't want to install the demo, there's a great YouTube video here that shows how the program works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gl-Y-AZwe5Q

    ReplyDelete
  91. If you don't want to download through origin you can get it on amazon

    ReplyDelete
  92. I just got the demo and i have that weird glith where the graphics have gone weird and their skin is all over the place etc. I'm hoping that this will get fixed but i have read all the comments and now am even more woried. I do not have sims 3 pets yet, nor do i have sims 3, so if i un-install the demo before i install the games will my game be alright? I know i will possibly still have the graphics glitch until i get a new card thingy or until they make a patch, but will i be able to open the game and stuff like that which people are having problems with?

    ReplyDelete
  93. After having tried this demo and now having the full game it's self for a month or so now I can really say that this was so not worth the hype it got like you think "Pets" would have brought it and made the game 100 times better then what it already is but with all the issues it gave us with Custom Content and just the lack of things to do in general with the game this was really a fail The Sims Unleashed & The Sims 2 Pets were a hell of a lot better then this monstrosity they called pets!!!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Now my Sims 3 game won't work because I downloaded this :( I should have read the comments in this blog first before I downloaded.
