Why hasn't anyone tried to make the Generation hair long, the one with all the twists/braids. I love that style, and I wish there was (more) variations for it.
Maybe if someone like Anubis did a retexture it wouldn't look so bad.... I like the style and that fact that it's a little wavy too, but if it was pooklet'd it would be pretty I think!
^Pooklet's textures do not look good on all hairs. Especially for afro-type hairs, they don't work. There have been examples of ethnic hairs Pooklet'd in the past to prove this.
I just have to ask...why does African hair get to be called "Ethnic"? Originally, Ethnic was a term that referred to ANY racial group.
And yet now it seems to be only used to refer to the dark-skinned Africans (I say it that way not to be racist/colourist, but to acknowledge that their are native humans to Africa who do not share the dark skinned genetics that are so lazily associated with the continent as a whole).
Don't Asian people have an Ethnic hair, as theirs is - for the most part - of a straight and fine variety? Europeans, depending on precise origin, and the strength of their "mutt"ness range from straight hair to wavy, to curly, to almost representing black people's hair. Aren't all of these different ethnic groups as well?
Granted, this has nothing to do with the hair here, which is actually worse than the original, and does nothing to resemble what it's meant to. I'm just wondering when did Ethnic's definition change to meaning "Black" only?
^Goodness, stop getting so caught up on semantics.
Leave it to a know-it-all asshole to always try to use these comments as a soapbox for whatever issues they have to try to derail the original topic, which was this HAIR. Words and their usages evolve over time. GET OVER IT and take it to a board where you can debate it.
^Even though they were more onto this hair being called Ethnic, the stem of their rant WAS based on this hair.
And it does raise a valid point. The Dictionary Definition of Ethnic is just referring to any large group of people sharing a racial/other similarity. The fact it's used for black people only IS a bit odd.
I really wish I could mesh hair, I have so many ideas for afro-centric, urban styles. Maybe one day I can take a class on how to use those programs.
The texture is fabulous, the mesh doesn't quite compliment it. I would love to see the texture on another mesh, maybe one of the short styles from the base game.
^ Wow. Seriously, just stop. You're obviously the same person repeatedly commenting due to your butt-hurt from earlier. Nobody cares about your hyper-sensitive rants, nor is this remotely the place for it. Anon or not, please stop making a complete ass out of yourself... -_-^
Oh, and to bring this back ON-topic, I agree 100% with B. The texture looks great, but the mesh is all wrong for a believable afro.
Omg it drives me crazy that every time black, African American, African, ethnic, etc hair is posted people start getting into these politically correct discussions.
I'm a black girl I wear my hair natural (no perm, afro, Afro puff twist outs occasionally straightened with a flat iron etc.) and these discussions about using the right terminology detracts from the fact that we NEED more Black, African, African American, ethnic etc. Hair.
These conversations only intimidate other people into thinking theyre being insulting when theyre absolutely not.
As long as no one is using the n-word, STFU. You know what people mean when they say "ethnic" hair. We're the only ones with hair like this. Yeah Asians are "ethnic" but for the most part, they have straight hair that's offered on every sim site out there.
"Fuck off, ya racist twit. And I say that as a white person"
LOL YOU THINK THAT'S RACISM.
Honestly, you're being the closest thing to racist with your positive discrimination. Telling people to stop being so pedantic about the use of the harmless word "ethnic" is ridiculous. Your response is also ridiculous, and to be honest makes people uncomfortable. You want real racism to advocate against? Go find some people who are actually out to hurt people who aren't white.
^^^ Agree with second to above anon, I'm an African anerican woman also, and I don't want people thinking we're that freaking sensitive to the usage of the word "ethnic" hair. Point blank, we need more, so could we please stop harrasing the creators or soon to be creators from making it......And also think that pooklet'd texture of this can be done, and not look bad, it just depends on how they do it. The mesh itself would have looked better if it was rounder in my opinion, I wear an afro and the texture of my afro is similar to this, so he/she is not off point with that. Anyway Good Job, and look for more work from you!!!
Anonymous said... I just have to ask...why does African hair get to be called "Ethnic"? Originally, Ethnic was a term that referred to ANY racial group.
Because it is ethnic. Ethnic still refers to ALL racial groups, including African-Americans.
As for the hair; a good attempt, but it needs work. I hope to see this creator improve their meshing skills. A better and bigger variety of good ethnic hairs is long overdue imho.
Anonymous said... It bugs me when people replace the word 'black' with 'African-American', when the person they're talking about might not even be American.
Might not even be American? FFS. African refers to ancestral origins. American refers to place of birth or citizenship. Anyone of ANY race living in America IS American either by birth or choice.
Um ethnic "hair" doesn't refer to all races.....ethnic hair is coarse and kinky, Only black people or people mixed with black in them have this kind of hair.
"Um ethnic "hair" doesn't refer to all races.....ethnic hair is coarse and kinky, Only black people or people mixed with black in them have this kind of hair."
Ever heard the term Jewfro? Though not usually as kinky as the hair of many blacks, there are other ethnic groups with coarse hair.
Back to the hair. I happen to like it. It adds variety, which is always welcome and I like the texture too.

Natalia said... @ Rhiannon I think they may have been saying that said person being called "African-American" is actually, say, Belgian.
If you are referring to the Belgium Congo in central Africa an African would call himself African. If you are referring to Belgium in Western Europe he would call himself Afro-European. As to what Americans call them because they don't know enough to make such distinctions is hardly the other persons fault. That said; people seem to be forgetting that Africa is a continent comprised of 54 countries in which cultures differ significantly.
@Diancarock exactly! I hate that those kinds of comments make it seem like we're soooo sensitive about our race that EVERY term offends us! On another site where people were requesting more kinky/curly hair, I saw someone state that they were offended by being called "black" o_O
I just get sick of every time I see anything about more black hair in the sims, the comments and conversation shifts from the hair to political correctness, what's offensive, ethnicity, culture, etc. All I care about is getting more hair that looks like mine and like this: hi-imcurrentlyobsessed.tumblr.com/ created by good designers to use in my game.
^I don't think everyone is "so sensitive about race that every term offends them" but I don't have a problem with people who are.
Apart from how I feel about racial terms, some of the comments made here are simply ill informed and incorrect and so what if I choose to correct them.
My niece is mixed. Her dad is Jamaican. We don't get all bent out of shape over racial terms providing they are not used in a derogatory manner, but I also respect that other individuals might not hold the same opinion. It isn't up to me to decide what other people get upset over.
The only time "black" *might* be construed as offensive in my part of the world is when it is used (incorrectly) as a generalization to encompass all people of colour without distinguishing between country and culture.

^^ And i say that as some one with an afro.
just looks like some one forced curly hair up in a ball. Doesnt look natural at all.
I would love an afro but this doesn't look very good.
Yuck.
I need to learn how to make custom hair for african americans, b/c styles like this does not work
Grace please do! :)

Well, thanks for trying Cheryl. Thanks for trying.
I lol'd. The toddlers hair just 'sploded.
I really LOVE this! I don't know why, but I really do. The texture is awesome! If I had a sim who I wanted with an Afro, this would be it!
I wonder if the hairlines would search her hair.
I mean airlines
This fucking sucks.

This is not true, I've heard people using the term ethnic for other cultures too. Specially when talking about fashion.
I think I'll stick with Nouks afros, thanks. =] Good try, though.
It bugs me when people replace the word 'black' with 'African-American', when the person they're talking about might not even be American.
^...or African.
Duck on over to Club crimsyn, there is a nice ethnic hair there.
"Goodness, stop getting so caught up on semantics."
This x1000.
Meh, I like it. *shrug* It's better than nothing, really. Not the worst thing I've ever seen.
^Goodness, stop getting so caught up on semantics.
Pointing out that something is racist, is perfectly reasonable.
Fuck off, ya racist twit. And I say that as a white person.
It's like saying something is "exotic". But it's only "exotic" if it (or the person) doesn't belong here. It's very exclusionary.
This is their goddamn country too, hello.

lol@the rabid anon who thinks anyone here gives a crap. Quit ranting about mind-numbing social issues on Sims websites and get a damn job.
But yeah. This still should only be worn on Halloween. A new mesh is a must. Otherwise it just looks super awkward like this.

I like the baby version. My brother's looked a lot like that, but much shorter and messier.
Actually, with a more jagged/natural hairline and about half the height chopped off, I would find it very usable.
this looks hilarious
