There's a little bit of everything available at TS3 Store. Some of the stuff is previewed but not showing up in the categories, I'm sure it will show up in no time.
Weird, I can't seem to find the hairstyle in the bottom picture last one for males.....anywhere on the web site. Am I missing something? Can any one else find it??
From my personal experience with the EA store, they don't make their items dependable upon expansions. They wouldn't be able to sell as much that way. You can look at the individual items in the store and I'm sure it'll say expansion dependent in its description if it does require it :) Like it does with exchange items that have expansion or premium items.
Most people aren't having problems with the patches and such anymore... Just back up your stuff and you're safe in the pretty unlikely event that you'll have to reinstall. You're most likely causing yourself more headaches by using an outdated version than you would be if you updated.
Yeah, I may go on and update. I was holding out for the Chaos mod to update so I would have all of the abilities back, but I can deal with having just the animation mod until around Christmastime.
I don't want to get anything else from the Sim store. Ea has a lot of gall selling anything after the mess they not only have made, but have yet to clear up. I don't normally get on here and rant but this just makes me so mad. I have at least 300 points left on my account...anyone want them?

To be fair to EA, the people who make extra content (like clothing and hairs) and those who program the game and fix bugs are usually on two separate teams. You have different people doing those things. So there should be no reason not to get new/extra stuff while they're fixing things that need fixing :)
Doesn't make it any less annoying, of course. I'm starting to get grumpy at things in my inventory disappearing (bad) and then suddenly reappearing (good) many sim days later. Although the bug with surprise kids in other countries makes me laugh x) And getting a free infusion of Ambrosia because the game suddenly reset your sim's age to the start of that age category for no apparent reason is kinda cool. Since I can just force an age-up when I'm tired of that sim hanging on as a geezer forever.
For what it's worth the modern set is pretty cool. Can make it not as modern looking by recoloring it. Wish there had been a single bed included and more plants and statues, but it seems nice.
I also find it pretty unfortunate that new store downloads are now only good for more recent patches.
I'm mainly unsure of patching since of delphy's slider mod and a few others I use religiously won't work if I upgrade (so awesomemod is my only option now?).
I downloaded the new male hair on the left in the Sims store and I have the latast updates. But it doetn't show up in the game, only if I create a new sim. Very frustrating.

That was on the colonial dress. I'm sure several of the others are like that as well. Expansion not required. Just the latest patch.

I'm up to date with the patches and got the fail thing a couple of times, but eventually they loaded after a few tries.
