New Magic Set at The Sims 3 Store

More Magic!

A little bit of magic is good, but everybody knows: MORE MAGIC IS EVEN BETTER! Lord Vladimir's Magic Cauldron, the Malleable Mimic Voodoo Doll and the Soothsayer's Crystal Ball will awe and amaze your Sims with a rush of magical forces so potent and powerful that they'll see stars...and the future!

2,200 SimPoints
1,850 SimPoints until 2/19/12

Thanks, Anon:)

It's looking more and more unlikely that we will ever get another magic expansion pack. Sigh. These objects are all well and good, although a bit too pricey, but I for one would rather have a full magic EP, with magic (spells and duelling) as an actual skill, as in TS1 and TS2.

^ I completely agree with you.

I third it.

I for one hope we never get a magic EP. There are tons of games on the market that already deal with magic. The Sims 3 doesn't have to be one of them.

As someone on another post put it, Magic is the ep that is most wanted, but also most NOT wanted. There was always much greater demand for Seasons and Pets.

The Sims 3 wasn't supposed to be Sims 1 and 2 with better graphics and a CAST system. I'd rather they spend time coming up with new concepts than including all the former EPS from the first two games. If everyone got their way with the expansions they wanted added back, then we'd never get new concepts. We already are nearing the 6th expansion...so there will probably be only two or three more left and one doesn't need to be wasted on Magic.

The store should be used for the less popular requests (like Magic). Therefore, the people who want Magic could have it and those who don't wouldn't feel like they had to skip an entire EP. Also, even if you don't get a Magic EP, if they screw up (and with their track record, it's likely), then stuff gets delivered through the patch that will bork people's games and eventually you have to patch up anyway. That way it's much safer for them to go the Store route because then they can include Magic and not have to release a patch for it.

Besides, the same people wanting magic would probably be sorely disappointed because EA manages to botch so many things anyway. I don't even trust them to do a full magic EP without FUBARing stuff from existing expansions.

I agree with this. ^

The Sims is supposed to imitate real life, as unreal as it can get, I think magic is too much. I wouldn't want it in my game. I just hope they are working on seasons for the next EP. From them on, bring new stuff out!

Well done and said.

on a professional standpoint a Magic EP will sell less copies than Generations.

Showtime Pre-Sales are probably less then Pets when it launched but will most likely beat Pets in its second quarter ( Cant do the Math now But I'm almost sure )

I think the Store will produce a World for this Magic set after Showtime ( Not Too Sure, But I know it will be a World ).

Absolutely agree. I don't want a magic EP either. I like the idea of a stuff pack or store items, but please, don't waste an EP on one all about magic. Many more people want Seasons or a business EP than want magic. As the Anon said above, there are loads of games out there full of magic but very few without unless they are gory crime dramas. ;)

Ok, have the stuff in game and here's my thoughts: The hair is surprisingly well done this time. They don't advertise the short female hairstyle (non-accessory) much in the screenshots, but it's very cute. Although I dread seeing random sims show up in town with the turban.... I can see them show up in the turban, a speedo and the rubber ducky inner-tube shirt x_x I also am not very fond of the outfit men got, but that's certainly a personal preference. The premium items seem to work fine together, but since they never fixed the bug with the fountain and the spellbook, it's hard to tell if they continue the trend as the animations on the spellbook still aren't there

Whatever, those who don't like magic could easily stay away from a Magic EP if there were one, just as they can avoid the magic crap in the store if they want. (And don't worry there certainly won't be one now). But no one should think that a few items (some which are borked, as was just mentioned) can ever replace a fully-fledged Magic EP, if it were well done, like Makin' Magic.

No one here was saying that there should be a magic EP instead of Seasons or whatever, either. TS3 is pretty far from being a game of realism, with ghosts, mummies, vampires and unicorns. A magic EP would fit right in with it.

As for the supposed "new" concepts that should be developed, they tend to be hit and miss. While some are good (WA, the bands in LN, the open neighborhood to name a few) I've found some of them to be very limited at times (Simport? I just watched the chat and I doubt I will ever use that particular function).

To me, there's nothing wrong with returning to classics that worked well (OFB anyone?). After all, the Sims team has always retained many features of the Sims that have been around since TS1, like key concepts such as the need to gain friends to advance in certain areas. If the entire game were completely new all the time, many of us wouldn't still be playing.

I want magic, we have all these great Harry Potter Worlds, and those of who would like to play with fantasy sims, but it seems kind of retarded if we can't make them magical. So I'm definitely Pro magic EP...

Anyone having problems recompressing the .sims3pack?

It flashed so quickly when I tried to run it over s3rc but I did make out that it said, "can't...." Not sure what the rest of the message was.

I'm anon at 3:33 AM. I decided to use Delphy's Multi-Extractor first to extract the individual packages from the .sims3pack and then I recompressed them one by one. There were two that wouldn't recompress and I guess that's the hangup with s3rc not being able to recompress the entire .sims3pack first. After opening the packages up with Postal and seeing that everything that was supposed to be included with the set was indeed there, my only conclusion is that the two things that didn't recompress were possibly screenshots that they'd included? Those are entirely useless anyway.

In case anyone needs the ID's of the things that wouldn't recompress, they are: 0x9e4a21745f724fbaa1f582fd14b9826c.package and 0x6366ce3baf9d48628db5b3e88691eb48.package.

^Me again. On second thought, there are actually two things missing for me from the set. The "divine future" fortune teller dress and outfit are missing...not sure why they wouldn't recompress, but oh well.

If anyone has any luck or can report different results, please respond.

I never played sims 2 on pc (only on ps2) but i love the idea of a magic EP. Showtime might have so many cool objects but it just seems somewhat uninspiring.

I only like the dandy lady hairstyle in this set XD

Although I dread seeing random sims show up in town with the turban....

I opened up the turban hair and Valid for Random is set to false. So it seems that they've learned.

OMG i love this!

@4:26, use s3rc first and then use multi-extracter. The entire sims3pack recompressed just fine for me but took about a minute, fair considering the file was large. I ended up with 21 packages files.

I don't want magic so I'll pass.

I don't want magic in my game I want something new and exciting seems like it's been a while since anything exciting has come into the sims 3 I was so excited for pets and that was just a fail in so many ways not to mention what it did to custom content....

Anonymous said...

Get over it and move on. ^^

Everyone else did. Plus they have tools to "fix" said content.

Anonymous said...

With the store coming out with animation content you never know they could start having a magic race or a werewolf race for sell its possible!

How do you use the voodoo doll? The only option I get is "bind to" and if I choose a Sim, they always get really angry at the Sim trying to use the doll, so it never works.

^I guess you have to know the person someone. I used the bin to... option on my sims boyfriend, and then you get the options to give them luck, cupid's arrow, pins and needles, etc.

The magic stuff is quite fun in game, and since I'm playing on Lost Island 2, I think it actually fits into the gameplay somewhat.
